A Little History
The natural beauty of my home state of Oregon left a lasting imprint on my mind. My parents were avid lovers of the outdoors and I spent my childhood visiting the lakes, rivers, mountains, and coastal wonders of the Pacific Northwest . We traveled somewhere nearly every available week-end and vacationed for a month every summer camping at a small lake in the Cascade Mountains.
As a young adult, I spent 5 years working as a stewardess for Pan American Airways. (back when air travel was fun). I traveled mostly south to the tropical climates working for the South American and Pacific Divisions. Because of that, turquoise water and palm trees show up in my work occasionally along with the amazing colors that exist in the tropics.
Adding to the spectacular images already imprinted in my mind, I lived for many years in Breckenridge, Colorado and then in the beautiful state of Arizona. More mountains, amazing mountains, crashing rivers and sights beautiful beyond belief. Colorado has approximately 50 mountains that rise over 14,000 feet and then there is the Grand Canyon. You never forget those things.
Now, living in Texas, I have this amazing repertoire of ideas and memories for subject matter. Most of my landscapes come from that place. I like to paint in layers, with bright colors. I like to be a bit mysterious, sometimes moody and having a bit of fun with subject matter is always a joy. I like to break the rules. I love to teach classes, mostly to artists who are "stuck" Currently I paint mostly in Acrylics, not always, but mostly.
